Contest History

Early 1990s - Tow Times magazine began a nationwide tow truck Beauty Contest. Entrants submitted photos and our readership judged the Contest using mail-in ballots.

April 1995 - International Trucks partnered with Tow Times to grow the Contest and move it to the next level. Through their relationship with Richard Petty Enterprises, Contest Grand Prize winners received a trip to the Daytona 500 where Mr. Petty presented them with their award. The Contest was named the Shine 'n Star Contest and branding began.

April 2003 - Ford Trucks assumed Sponsorship of the Shine 'n Star Contest. Their emphasis as a sponsor has remained supporting professional towing companies by recognizing those who take pride in their equipment and enter their truck in the contest.

April 2008 - Tow Times began accepting electronic entries.

April 2010 - Tow Times enhanced the Contest by posting all entries on
towtimes.com for visitors from around the world to enjoy.
